A favourite around these parts, Scott Matthew (not to be confused with UK singer Scott Matthews) has had several tracks featured on Something Chewie. In early 2008, he released his first studio album, aptly self-titled. Fortuitously, the album was finally released in the UK this month, so now we (and Australia, New Zealand and Japan) can also get their hands on it. Once again, his gentle tones mix with his awesomely powerful music – backed by a variety of musicians to complete some mellow, sorrowful, but also uplifting pieces of music. Today’s track is taken from his new album, and since its now available in the UK too, there should be no excuse not to buy it! Enjoy today’s track, “Abandonedâ€:
Sorry for the missing two days – a combination of work and illness prevented me from getting much done, but we’re back today with one of my favourite, and admittedly previously featured, artists: Scott Matthew. But since I did promise I would, I have to! But there’s that and I just love his music. Once again the song is a perfect example of Scott Matthew’s strange and wonderful voice – it’s different, but I think he pulls it off. Once again, it’s taken from a Yoko Kanno project (so much so on this weblog I might as well call it the Yoko Kanno and Friends music blog) but you can’t go wrong. I hope you enjoy, at least somewhat as much as I do, “Beauty Is Within Us”:
This isn’t a first appearance for Steve on Something Chewie – he’s not that long ago featured with his brother under The Contes. Steve Conte, like Scott Matthew before him (see previous post) is a vocalist often used by the Japanese soundtrack composer Yoko Kanno. And there’s a good reason for her picks – once again an amazing voice! And put that to good use with Yoko’s excellent music, and you’ve got another winning formula. “Living Inside the Shell” is taken, once again, from “Ghost in the Shell” and features the vocals of Shanti Snyder. Take a listen, if you will:
Reminder: I’m currently away on holiday and unable to reply to comments or emails until Monday 9th. Tracks have been posted in advance during my absence. Please keep on visiting every day for new music!
When I completed my exams this Tuesday past, I decided to buy myself a gift for all the thanks I obviously deserve. You could do the same too, you know – giving them to me, I mean! Ahum, anyway, “Elva Snow” was the album I purchased. I first heard Australian-born Scott Matthew’s (not to be confused with the British Scott Matthews) voice in Yoko Kanno’s soundtrack to Stand Alone Complex. His voice is really unique, and I absolutely adore it. When I discovered he teamed up with ex-Morrisey member Spencer Corbin to produce an an album with his vocals and lyric-writing – well, I was sold. And I knew I made the right choice going for it. This is the first track on the admittedly small 8-track album, “Pavement Kisses”. You can definitely expect to hear more of Scott Matthew’s work later on in the life of Something Chewie, I can promise you!
