Mew - Snow Brigade

Mew - FrengersAlthough Wikipedia describes them as indie rock, there’s much more to Danish band Mew than that basic generalisation (another reason why genres suck!) - there’s a brilliant, and very different, approach to Mew’s music which, coupled with the awesome high-pitched voice of Jonas Bjerre, makes for great listening. This track is my favourite from their 2003 album, “Frengers” - which as the band describes is a portmanteau of the words “friend” and “stranger” or someone who is “not quite a friend but not quite a stranger”. Take a listen to “Snow Brigade” by Mew:

Rival Schools - Used For Glue

17th August, 2007 by Chewbacca

Rival Schools - United by FateLast month we had Used For Glue’s Light it Up, and the month before that, Sweet Return by Cardia - where’s this going? Well, before Ian Love left Walter Schreifels’ band “Rival Schools”, they put out a song called “Used For Glue”. It all comes back to basics, and since I promised some time ago that Rival Schools would get their much-deserved mention, right now was as good a time as any! The band was (until Love’s departure eventually fractured the band) a post-hardcore supergroup of sorts - with members coming from a plethora of already recognised bands. Their first, and only, full length album “United by Fate” was released in 2001, and featured today’s track:

Vib Gyor - Silence

17th July, 2007 by Chewbacca

Vib Gyor - EP 4Leeds-based “Vib Gyor” got their big break in 2005 when their tracks started to receive airplay on several national radio stations, notably BBC Radio 1, where the track “Fallen” has received significant playings. Formed in 2004, they’ve put out four EPs and two singles, most recently in March of this year with “The Secret”. The music is best described as mellow post rock / art rock reminiscent of Sigur Rós with Radiohead stylings. This track, “Silence” is both haunting and beautiful:
